“How to Make a Living”: This is the education we often prioritize—the skills, knowledge, and strategies required to earn a livelihood. It encompasses our careers, financial stability, and the practical aspects of survival.
Beyond paychecks, bank balances, and social status there exists another rich tapestry of life! and WHAT IS THAT EXACTLY?? let’s go through a REAL LIFE STORY or rather we can say a REAL LIFE INCIDENT.
Hi everyone, I am Ankur Dutta, some of you know me but mostly don’t…lets keep it that way; cause that’s the hook, an unknown person writing through the keyboards and thinking through the fingers, Today in “PERSPECTUS” lets embrace the core of life itself.
Chicago’s Edgewater Beach Hotel is said to have hosted the country’s great and good for much of the 20th Century. Demolished in 1970, its famous guests included Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Charlie Chaplain and Bette Davis, not to mention U.S. presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. But if legend is to be believed, it was also a place of serious business. Picture in 1923, in the same hotel where the air hums with anticipation, Nine of the world’s wealthiest individuals gather. Their combined fortunes are said to surpass even that of the entire U.S. government. These titans—masters of industry, captains of finance, and wizards of stock market…
The President of the largest steel company.
The President of the largest utility company.
The President of the largest gas company.
The President of NewYork Stock Exchange.
The President of the Bank of International Settlements.
The greatest Wheat speculator in commodity market.
The Greatest ‘Bear’ of Wall Street.
The Head of the world’s greatest monopoly .
A member of US President Herding’s cabinet.
Their stories, 25 years later, serve as cautionary tales about the delicate dance between wealth and living…..
Charles M Schwab, once president of Bethlehem Steel, lived on borrowed capital, eventually dying bankrupt, Schwab became notorious for his "fast lane" lifestyle including opulent parties, high-stakes gambling, and a string of extramarital affairs. The stock market crash of 1929 finished off what years of wanton spending had started. He spent his last years in a small apartment. He could no longer afford the taxes on "Riverside", and it was seized by creditors.
Howard Hubson, the president of the largest gas company, suffered a mental breakdown, ending up in an insane asylum
One of the greatest commodity (Wheat) traders, ARTHUR CUTTEN, Died Insolvent.
The President of NYSE Richard Whitney convicted for embezzlement, arrested and eventually pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to a term of ten years in prison. He became the manager of a dairy farm in his later life.
The member of US Presidents’ cabinet Albert Fall was perdont from jail, just to go home and die peacefully. He was convicted for a bribery of 385,000 USD.
was the first U.S. cabinet official sentenced to prison in a scandal.
The Greatest ‘BEAR’ on wall streat, Jesse Lauriston Livermore…A week after Thanksgiving in 1940, Jesse walked into the Sherry-Netherland Hotel in New York, had two drinks at the bar while scribbling something in his notebook, then proceeded to the cloak room where he sat on a stool and shot himself in the head. A suicide note was found addressed to his wife - "My dear Nina: Can't help it. Things have been bad with me. I am tired of fighting. Can't carry on any longer. This is the only way out. I am unworthy of your love. I am a failure. I am truly sorry, but this is the only way out for me. Love Laurie". ( I wander about all the huge bank balances he had, does not bother him to reconsider )
The president of the world’s greatest monopoly, The Match King - Ivar Kruger found dead in bed in his apartment with a note - “I have made such a mess of things that I believe this to be the most satisfactory solution for everybody concerned. Please, take care.”
The 1st President of the Bank of International Settlements Leon Fraser committed suicide - reason unkmown.
The CEO of the largest utility company, Samuel Insull, died penniless He had 30 francs – 84 cents – in his pocket the last worth of money, at the time and was identified by a hotel laundry bill in his pocket.
What happened? How did prosperity turn to ruin? The answer lies not in the balance sheets they have or the car they owned, but in the uncharted territories of the human heart.
so…..Beyond paychecks, bank balances, and social status there exists another rich tapestry of life! named - EXPERIENCES. - love, laughter, connection, purpose, and wonder, embracing these intangibles, nurturing relationships, finding joy in small moments, and leaving a positive impact on others.
and…..we should learn 2 things parallelly…..
- How to Make a Living ?
- How to Truly Live ?? (create memories, and find fulfillment)
Todays article was not about sharing knowledge, but preferably about sharing a perspective about the 2nd most important means of knowledge we often ignore from the very dawn of our livelihood. “Boring and monotonous gyan” I knew. Even for me sometimes, but once we relate the same psychic with story its not boring anymore…but eyeopening .
